I understood the importance of visual contact with my drone during my first flight. The area without huge trees and buildings was a way to goo.
After all important updates and installations done at home my drone was ready for its first flight. One of the beginners mistakes is to fly their new drone inside the house. This mistakes usually end with crash. My recommendation is to go outside and find a place with plenty of clear space.
I decided to take my car and drive to one of my favourite places. It’s 90 minutes drive North-West from Stockholm. This old and ancient place name was Anundshög. I was happy to get a company of my female friend on this trip.
Be patient and take your time
The weather wasn’t on my side. Heavy clouds and wind created some insecurity. Nothing strange knowing that I never flaw before. The wind was blowing 10 m/s which probably pilots with experience would handle with ease.
I know that collecting the minimum of 10 satellites was a good start. Later during the flight this number will increase. So I had my drone powered and parked on the ground in about minute or two.
My first drone flight could end before it started
When I was brave enough to tke off I found a problem. I was close enough to a small local airport and was locked to take off by DJI app. Before I decided to turn off my drone I received information. I was asked to apply for fly permission and if approved I will get a digit code by SMS. I was using my mobile connected to console to control my drone and applied for permission. A minute or less and was granted a permission with 6 digits.
After the take off I was hovering in few minutes to see how my drone would behave. Few minutes later I upp in the sky with a nice view. I tried simple flying manoeuvres just to get feeling of sensitivity of joysticks, speed and other practical stuff.
In the end I took a few single photos and panoramas. During the time weather changed and the rain was on it’s way. I decided to pack my equipment and we went to local restaurant for a good veggie meal.
